From buying it to using it offline

Some apps are not for sale yet. Each app’s own page says whether you can buy it.

An Ektopos app is copied onto your device the first time you open it online. After that it runs with no signal at all. Here is the whole path, in order.

Step by step

  1. Buy it

    Payment is handled by Gumroad. Once it goes through, Gumroad emails you a receipt, and your license key is in that email.

  2. Swap the license key for an unlock code

    Open ektopos.app/redeem, choose the app, and paste in your license key. You get an unlock code back. No account to create.

  3. Open the app and paste the unlock code

    The app opens in your browser — use “Open the app” on the app’s page. Opening it this first time is what copies the app onto your device. Paste the unlock code and it unlocks.

  4. You need the internet for this first time only

    What was just copied over is the whole app — screens, text, and the calculations — about 10–12 MB of it. Once it is done, the app tells you so: “This works without a connection now.” It happens once; after that the app does not use the network.

  5. Add it to your home screen (optional)

    Pick “Add to Home Screen” from your browser’s menu and it opens from an icon, like any other app. The menu wording differs a little from device to device.

  6. Check that it worked

    Turn on airplane mode (or switch off Wi-Fi and mobile data), then open the app again. If it opens as usual, it is on your device. If it does not, the copy did not finish — open it again where you have a signal, give it a moment, and try once more.

Worth knowing

  • If you clear your browser’s site data or history, the stored app goes with it. Open it online once and it comes back — you do not buy it again. You can also get a fresh unlock code any time from the license key in your Gumroad receipt.
  • New versions arrive when you open the app while online. Stay offline and you keep the version already on your device.
  • Each device needs its own first online visit. If you use it on both a phone and a laptop, open it online once on each.
  • It is the app itself that works offline — not this page or the payment step. Buying and unlocking need an internet connection.
